“Lobey Dosser”
Posted by Jackie on April 16, 2008
The sign under this little statue, which can be found in Woodlands Road in the West End, reads
“Statue erected by public subscription on May 1, 1992, to the memory of BUD NEILL, 1911-1970, CARTOONIST & POET
Creator of Lobey Dosser, Sheriff of Calton Creek, his trusty steed El Fideldo, resident villain Rank Bajin, and many other characters.”
Lobey Dosser was a popular newspaper cartoon character based on Glasgow characters – there is more information on artist Bud Neil’s wikipedia page, and some examples of the cartoon strip here.

This is a very cool looking statue. I don’t know the cartoon at all, but this guy would be a welcome addition to my town. Better than some of the abstract nonsense doing the rounds! (Not all of it, just the rubbish stuff.)

Wow! Thtat’s a fantastic lively statue as a tribute to a cartoonist. Youv’e captured that superbly.
By the way, my partner is a cartoonist. One of his gigs is the BBC Politics Show website, Gary Barker, the Barker Gallery.
I’ve posted some TT pics today, you might enjoy.

Great close-up – maybe one for the Big Art Mob, if you don’t mind the creative commons thingy.
Thanks for brightening up my lunch-time (as usual).

Ah, Jackie…
Growing up in the US, watching all the westerns on TV, I am sure I would have adored the likes of Lobey Dosser. In reading the Wikipedia link, I found myself grinning and giggling. I guess we little kids growing up with all the westerns in the US were no different than Scottish kids watching westerns!!!
I really love the idea of the two-legged horse!!!
