Iris
Posted by Jackie on May 30, 2009
A couple of weeks ago I showed one of the Queen’s Park ponds with lots of leaves and said it’ll be a few weeks and it will look amazing with the irises. They are just starting to flower now, lots of buds but only a few of them had fully opened up. I took loads of pictures, this was the only decent one but hey, it was worth the rubbish ones to get this one

Bruiser baby coot
Posted by Jackie on May 29, 2009
Taken at the end of last week, this shows really well how big the two baby coots are getting – here’s one with a parent, they’re nearly as big as the adults now and right bruisers, but still covered in fluff. I’m assuming the ducks and swans haven’t bred this year, as there isn’t hide nor hair of ducklings or cygnets sadly.

Southside Festival (1)
Posted by Jackie on May 25, 2009
I’m going to stay in Queen’s Park this week for photos, as it was the host for the second annual Southside Festival this weekend just gone. Last year (the first) I was away and so missed what was by all accounts a very successful festival. This year they made it bigger and have had a number of events (concerts, comedy etc) over the last month, and made the final Queen’s Park bit a weekend this year rather than just the day. The weather wasn’t brilliant – not wet at least, but it wasn’t warm – and I think this might have affected attendance a bit. Anyway, I’ll show you a few photos over the next few days. This one is looking down towards the main stage on Saturday – nobody was playing at this point, though a couple of former X-factor/Britain’s Got Talent finalists from last year were lined up (we didn’t hang around I’m afraid, it was too cold!).

Synagogue (1)
Posted by Jackie on May 22, 2009
This is a close-up of the writing above the door of the synagogue on Niddrie Road in the south side of the city, not far from Queen’s Park. I did once see someone coming out and locking up so I know it is sometimes used, but apart from that one time I’ve only ever been past when it’s been locked up so I’ve never seen inside it. I’ll show you a view of the outside tomorrow.
