Here is another view from the Botanic Gardens – in the foreground is the glasshouse, then the Kibble Palace. Behind that is the old BBC studio in Queen Margaret Drive, and the chimney spewing smoke (quite a Glasgow landmark – I’ve got a few pictures of that lined up) is a whisky distillery.

Beutifully rendered in black and white, Jackie! Since “glass houses” always have that Victorian feel to them, the B&W is perfect!
The smoking chimney is such a contrast to the beauty of a botanic (here in the US of A we call them botanical) garden!!! Life is so full to the brim of contrasts, isn’t it?
“old BBC studio” — has it closed? I used to go to concerts there — you just had to write and apply for tickets and they sent you theme – they wanted an audience who would clap in the right places. I think it was usually the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra that were playing but sometimes it would be the SNO – are they still going?
The tickets were always for two — made for a cheap date but unforetuneatly the music loving lasses didn’t seem to appreciate it!
Gerald, yes it closed last summer and the BBC have moved to a new purpose-built place on Pacific Quay (on the south side of the River Clyde, near the Science Centre and Squinty Bridge). I’m hoping to get to see it if I’m around for Open House weekend in September, it’s apparently quite impressive – though I bet it doesn’t have the character of Queen Margaret Drive. I think the BBC SSO are now based at the revamped City Halls in Merchant City.

Wow, I love the tones in this picture. Seems to have a great balance of light and dark. Fantastic job!
