A photo a day from Scotland’s biggest city.

More concrete

Posted by Jackie on February 8, 2009

Although Glasgow has lots of great architecture, it seems we haven’t entirely escaped socialist realism.

  1. An impressive shot. Hope in coming days we will be able to see more such amazing buildings of Glasgow. 🙂

Socialist realism? I don’t think I am familiar with that concept.

I cannot believe the amount of glass betweeen those two buildings! Wow…a window washers delight!

Love the blue skies against the grey of the buildings!

The concrete block just reminded me of the socialist blocks I’ve seen throughout eastern Europe, hence the sarcasm 🙂

The great thing about this picture is the negative space. The sky is in strong contrast and has sharp edges. It makes for a very interesting geometric pattern.

We’ll be in your country Wednesday (meaning the UK, not Scotland), although much farther south.

Thanks Bob, I think you’re right – despite the not that interesting subject matter I like this picture and was pleased with it. Hope you have a fun trip this side of the Pond!

A fine example of ‘new brutalist’ architecture.

Nice angle. I don’t mind the building in the centre.
