Ice on the Clyde

Posted by Jackie on January 13, 2010

As you may know the UK spent the last few weeks in a pretty major cold snap. The photos over the next few days were taken at the weekend – here you can see ice has formed on the river Clyde, the first time I’ve seen that since I’ve lived here. Hopefully it is all starting to thaw now – with any luck this will be the end of it, after having had a burst pipe and no water for a while I’m hoping we get back to normal sooner rather than later!

Calm reflection

Posted by Jackie on November 23, 2009

This is the previous bridge, reflected in an unfeasibly calm river Clyde. I don’t think I’d ever seen it so calm.

This old and now defunct bridge is over the River Clyde as it heads towards the east end of the city. I loved the old ironwork, they don’t make them like they used to.

Bridge and bridge

Posted by Jackie on November 1, 2009

Here’s the final railway bridge photo – this one shows just how close it is to the road bridge that carries (among other things) the #44 bus into town that I get so regularly.

I wasn’t organised enough this month to sort out anything for the 1st Nov Theme Day. Whoops! I think I’m just traumatised that it’s November already, how on earth did that happen?

Under the bridge

Posted by Jackie on October 31, 2009

This was taken walking under yesterday’s railway bridge. I’d never noticed the pattern of the bricks round the arches before.

Railway bridge

Posted by Jackie on October 30, 2009

This is the bridge that carries trains to and from Central Station. Standing underneath it on the walkway with a train going overhead is quite the deafening experience.

I only noticed very recently that the round structure (no idea what it’s called) has writing carved in it, but even when I enlarge the picture I can’t make out what it says. Some of the characters look Greek to me, but I could well be making that up!

This is one end of the bridge I’ve been showing the last few days. I took a fair few pictures as I walked along this bit of the Clyde, so I’ll show some more over the next few days.

I struggled a bit with the exposure on this, but still quite like the results. This is the underside of yesterday’s footbridge.

Bright and dull

Posted by Jackie on October 25, 2009

I know I’ve shown a lot of photos of blue skies on this blog (generally because I’m more likely to take lots of pictures when the weather is good, and then I can show them when it’s too wet and miserable to take pictures). But it’s been distinctly grey lately. This was taken along the Clyde walkway – I liked the contrast between the bright orange and yellow of the rescue gear, the grey of the river, buildings and sky and the odd splodge of green and yellow from the trees. The building over the river, in front of the tower blocks, is Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Clyde lights

Posted by Jackie on September 7, 2009

This is from one of the older footbridges over the Clyde (if you check out my first ever theme day photo, Dec 1st 2007, you’ll see a view of the footbridge lit up).
